The Redding Historical Society was founded in the 1940s and incorporated in 1962 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Our mission is to educate about, preserve, and promote Redding, Connecticut’s special heritage. The society preserves unique, historic properties for the community, which serve as venues for the events and programs we run throughout the year.

ANNUAL UMPAWAUG SCHOOLHOUSE OPEN HOUSE

This Sunday, November 3rd from 1 PM - 4 PM!

Come tour Redding’s only surviving one-room brick schoolhouse, a national historic landmark built circa 1789. This annual event is open to the public, donations greatly appreciated. The schoolhouse is located on Umpawaug Road south of the West Redding firehouse, near the intersection of Umpawaug and Marchant Roads.

REVOLUTIONARY ENCAMPMENT AT PUTNAM MEMORIAL STATE PARK

This Saturday, November 2nd there will be a Revolutionary Encampment at Putnam Park from 10 AM - 4 PM!

This is the 246th anniversary of the Continental Army winter quarters in Redding. There will be artillery demonstrations, a battlefield skirmish, children’s drill, camp life talks, soldiers, artisans, and book signings.

    Sunday, June 23rd is Llama Day from 1:30 - 3:30 PM at Lonetown Farm (43 Lonetown Rd, Redding CT)!

    You can meet several camelid visitors from Poverty Hollow Llamas, learn about how they live, do llama crafting, and more!

    There is fun for the whole family at this free event! Note: No dogs allowed.
